What is TDS

It goes without saying that water is a necessity for the life of human being, however, not all water sources around us are applicable for human health, it is rather harmful for us to drink the water of poor quality for a long time, thus there is a general discussion today about the issue of water quality.

When referring to water quality, water purifier plays an essential role in water purification, moreover, taking space-saving for granted, counter top purifier becomes more and more popular recently, so it is necessary to specify a series of terms such as water purifier, TDS level and RO filtering technology.

Here comes a term called as TDS, what is TDS?

TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids and represents the total concentration of dissolved substances in water. TDS is the term used to describe the inorganic salts and small amounts of organic matter present in solution in water. The primary components of TDS are usually calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium cations and carbonate, hydrogen carbonate, chloride, sulfate, and nitrate anions.

Founded on a report by the Water Quality Association, water low in TDS is defined as that containing between 1-100 milligrams per liter (mg/l) of TDS. There is no scientific data to prove that drinking water with low TDS will have adverse health effects. On the contrary, low TDS means the water quality is excellent, but it tends to have a flat taste.

A review was conducted of the United States, Canada, World Health Organization (WHO) and European Community (EC) drinking water standards. The recommended TDS Level in parts per million(ppm) is less than 300, so the one less than 100 can be regarded as excellent.

How to reduce TDS in water?

If you test the TDS and find out your drinking water TDS is above 300 ppm or higher, you are supposed to consider improving such water. The effective way to reduce or remove the TDS in water is to utilize a water treatment system.

To be brief, the next topic will be a reverse osmosis (is generally shortened to RO) water filtration method we recommend to reduce high levels of total dissolved solids in your tap and drinking water.
